Ormoc City – All classes at City College of Ormoc (CCO) were suspended today, October 22, 2024, as the Tropical Storm (TS) named Kristine continues to bring moderate to heavy rainfall, according to the latest update from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The announcement was made early this morning at 7:20AM, as the storm getting closer to the Philippine landmass.
Tropical Storm Kristine was located approximately 400 km east of Virac, Catanduanes, based on available data. This is packing maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 80 km/h and is currently moving westward at 15 km/h. Potential flooding and rain-induced landslides, particularly in areas identified as highly susceptible to such hazards, as per the warning from PAGASA.
City College of Ormoc has then advised its students to stay at home and prioritize safety during the inclement weather as a precaution. Further, they were also encouraged to make the most of their time and continue with their studies and other responsibilities. Moreover, with the weather conditions expected to worsen as the day progresses, the local government, alongside educational institutions, continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure public safety.
