๐๐๐ฌ๐ ๐: The entire CWTS (Citizens Welfare Training Service) students, under the NSTP subject spearheaded by Ms. Ma. Lorin Parrilla actively participated in a comprehensive seminar on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) held at the Good Governance building, New Liga ng Barangay, March 5.
Hosted by Ms. Shelly Marapoc, President of the Citizens Welfare Training Service, and Mr. Jovince Manulat, the Vice President of the same discipline, they ensured to keep a thorough understanding of the seminar, invigorating students in the hall. Mr. Aga Galabo, the Vice President of Student Affairs and Services, also graced the event with uplifting words in regards to HIV, AIDS, and STIs.
Our esteemed speaker, Dr. Donahflor D. Amatong, a registered nurse and the school nurse of the City College of Ormoc, delivered an informative presentation, thoroughly explaining the fundamentals of HIV, STI, and AIDS. She elaborated on the common signs and symptoms, ways of transmission, and introduced practical preventive measures to avoid these diseases.
Dr. Donna’s expertise and engaging presentation allowed the students to imbibe the learnings and essential tools for protection. She also brought in the concept of ABCDE, serving as a preventative measure against these diseases, which stands for abstinence, being monogamous, correct and consistent use of condoms, not injecting drugs, and education & early detection.
Further, she emphasized that while HIV can be found in saliva, sweat, tears, and urine, the concentration is too low to transmit the virus through contact with these fluids. Rather, she urges students to remember the four body fluids in HIV transmission, such as blood, semen, vaginal/cervical fluid, and breast milk.

Afterwards, the seminar concluded with a question-and-answer period, giving participants the chance to clarify questions.
