Forty (40) sophomore students of the City College of Ormoc (CCO) were chosen as beneficiaries of the Department of Labor and Employment – Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (DOLE-TuPAD) Program. They were invited to attend the Handog ng Pangulo: Job Fair and Tupad Payout Serbisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat at the Robinsons Place Mall, Ormoc City on Friday, September 13, 2024. For their involvement, all of them received free shirts and caps from DOLE.
Beneficiaries of the DOLE-TuPAD Program started their service on September 13 to 22, 2024 in which they were required to render 40 hours of work within 10 days. In the case of the CCO students, they were given a special schedule which they will render during their free time. The goal of the TuPAD Program is to give emergency employment to displaced workers, underemployed individuals, and seasonal workers. The beneficiaries were selected based on the main criterion which includes their desire to have work to alleviate their financial difficulties.
“I am very blessed that we were given the opportunity because it was a big help for us who have financial constraints. Even though we are scholars of the LGU in our schooling, there are day to day expenses especially in budgeting for our food and fare, which is challenging” confessed by Kim Thea Lamberto, a sophomore student. Miss Lamberto also mentioned that her dad is a construction worker in Cebu while her mom can’t work because she had a stroke due to high blood pressure. “I am also thankful to Ma’am Marimel Vergara Senefrota of CCO for always checking on our welfare and willingly listening to our problems”.
For 10 days of service under the TuPAD Program, the students will receive a salary of 4,050 Pesos. Ma’am Senefrota will coordinate the submission of the necessary documentary requirements by the student beneficiaries for the program.
Ma’am Senefrota and the faculty and staff of CCO, would like also to extend their deep appreciation to Ormoc City Councilor, Honorable Lalaine Marcos for choosing the students of the City College of Ormoc as beneficiaries of the TuPAD Program. Furthermore, to Senator Bong Go for earmarking the funding for the program and through the implementation of DOLE Region 8 and PESO Ormoc.
